In a significant boost for young innovators, Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has awarded N10 million to eight finalists of the third Amplifier Business Clinic and Pitch Contest. This announcement came during the closing event of the 2024 International Youth Day, themed “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development,” held at Campos Square, Lagos Island.
The Amplifier Business Clinic and Pitch Contest aims to equip 100 young entrepreneurs with essential tools, knowledge, and resources to turn their innovative ideas into successful, sustainable businesses. Among the winners, Maryam Atolagbe stood out, receiving a grant of N2.5 million.
Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that this grant represents more than just financial assistance; it is an investment in the dreams and potential of the beneficiaries, enabling them to contribute to Lagos State’s economic growth. He highlighted the importance of digital technology as a pathway for youth empowerment and progress.
“Our administration is deeply committed to empowering young people through new programs and policies aimed at fostering entrepreneurship and innovation,” Sanwo-Olu stated. He outlined various initiatives, including the establishment of technology hubs and innovation centers throughout the state, providing access to advanced tools, training, and mentorship.
The governor also noted ongoing investments in education and skills development, such as the Lagos State Employability Support Project, which has trained thousands of youths in essential digital skills, enhancing their employability and entrepreneurial potential.
Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, shared that the week-long celebration included a range of activities—press conferences, awareness walks, environmental sanitation, youth conferences, and an engagement summit. This culminated in the establishment of a Technical Working Group on Youth Engagement, composed of experts from both public and private sectors to foster collaboration and partnerships.
With these initiatives, Lagos State is paving the way for a vibrant ecosystem that supports the next generation of entrepreneurs, helping them turn their visions into reality.
