To ensure the smooth hosting of the upcoming Electric Powerboat Racing Championship — the E1 Series, Africa’s first electric powerboat race — scheduled to take place from Friday, 3rd to Sunday, 5th October 2025 on the Lagos Inland Waterways (Victoria Island Lagoon), the Lagos State Government has announced traffic diversions in parts of the city.
As part of the event logistics, there will be a total road closure at the 1st Lekki Junction inward Ozumba Mbadiwe during the period of the championship. The Lagos State Government advises motorists to plan their movements ahead and use designated alternative routes.
Motorists coming from Ajah toward Lekki are advised to make a U-turn at the Lekki 1st Junction by the Pedestrian Bridge, then link Yesufu Abiodun through Maroko Police Station to access City of David, Ligali Ayorinde, and connect to Ajose Adeogun, leading to Eko Hotel Roundabout, Ahmadu Bello Way, Independence Bridge, and onward to McEwen/Onikan to continue their journeys.
As another option, road users from Ajah heading toward CMS can take the Abraham Adesanya route to link Ogonbo Road, access Okun Ajah Road, and continue via the Coastal Road to Ahmadu Bello Way, Independence Bridge, and McEwen/Onikan.
Motorists from Lekki and its environs heading to Ikoyi or the Mainland are advised to use Admiralty Way to access the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, then continue through Alexander Road, Bourdillon Way, Gerrard Road, and Osborne Road.
Those heading from Lekki toward CMS can connect through Yesufu Abiodun, link Oniru Road to Aboyade Cole Road, proceed via Ligali Ayorinde to Eko Hotel Roundabout, and continue their journey via Ahmadu Bello Way.
Meanwhile, motorists traveling from the CMS/Independence Bridge and Ozumba Mbadiwe axis toward the Lekki-Epe Expressway will be able to access Ajah and its surrounding areas without restrictions.
To support event logistics, adequate parking arrangements have been made available at designated areas, including Fidelity Bank, Access Bank, and the Law School premises in Victoria Island.
The Lagos State Government urges all road users to cooperate with officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), who will be strategically stationed along the affected routes to manage traffic and ensure minimal disruption.
