Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to youth empowerment and capacity development, as the state officially launched the Eko Skills Development Initiative, a comprehensive programme aimed at equipping young Lagosians with practical and industry-relevant skills.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony held in Lagos, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the initiative as a strategic response to youth unemployment and a vital part of his government’s broader efforts to prepare the state’s youth for the demands of the 21st-century economy.
“Our youths are the backbone of our future. This initiative is a bold step towards equipping them with skills that will not only make them employable but also empower them to become job creators,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
The Eko Skills Development Initiative is designed to provide training in key sectors such as technology, creative arts, digital media, fashion design, manufacturing, construction, and entrepreneurship. The programme will be implemented through partnerships with industry experts, vocational institutions, and private sector stakeholders.
Sanwo-Olu emphasized that his administration believes in inclusive growth and is determined to ensure that young people across all communities in Lagos have access to quality training, mentorship, and economic opportunities.
He urged the youth to take full advantage of the programme, stressing that the state government is committed to creating an enabling environment for their personal and professional growth.
Also present at the event were representatives from the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, development partners, youth leaders, and beneficiaries of previous empowerment programmes, who commended the initiative as timely and impactful.
The Governor concluded by noting that the success of the Eko Skills Development Initiative would further contribute to reducing youth restiveness, promoting entrepreneurship, and accelerating the overall socioeconomic development of Lagos State.
