In a significant move to address housing needs in Lagos State, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has officially commissioned the first phase of the Ajara Housing Scheme in Badagry, delivering 420 brand-new homes to residents.
The project, which had experienced delays for several years, was revitalized and completed under the current administration. Governor Sanwo-Olu noted that upon assuming office, his government prioritized resolving the longstanding issues that had stalled the development, ensuring that construction resumed and the project was brought to life.
“With the successful delivery of the Ajara Housing Scheme, this becomes the 24th housing estate completed by our administration,” the Governor stated during the commissioning ceremony. “Each apartment was constructed with a strong focus on quality, durability, and comfort, to provide residents with homes they can be truly proud of.”
The Governor also used the occasion to announce the launch of the second phase of the Ajara Housing Scheme, which will add over 800 additional housing units to the estate. This expansion reflects the administration’s continued commitment to bridging the housing gap across Lagos State.
Beyond housing, Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted the broader development efforts in Badagry, citing ongoing investments in critical infrastructure such as roads, schools, healthcare facilities, and community development. He emphasized that these initiatives are part of a comprehensive vision to promote balanced urban growth and improve the quality of life for Lagosians, especially in underserved areas.
“Badagry is undergoing significant transformation,” he said. “From improved connectivity to better healthcare and now expanded housing, we are ensuring that every part of Lagos experiences meaningful development.”
The Ajara Housing Scheme is part of the larger THEMES agenda of the Sanwo-Olu administration, aimed at building a Greater Lagos through targeted efforts in Transportation, Health, Education, and Infrastructure.
As the state continues its rapid urbanization, projects like this underscore the administration’s proactive approach to ensuring that growth is inclusive and sustainable for all residents.
