Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has called for renewed unity, shared vision, and collaboration among the governments and people of the South-West region to drive Nigeria’s renewal and development.
The Governor made this call in Akure during the South-West Citizen-Government Engagement Summit, where he joined other governors, traditional rulers, and stakeholders from across the region. He emphasized that the South-West must once again take the lead in shaping Nigeria’s socio-economic transformation, just as it did in the early years of the nation’s development.
Governor Sanwo-Olu commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his visionary leadership and for championing the establishment of the South-West Development Commission (SWDC), which was also supported by the National Assembly. He described the Commission as a vital framework that will enable the region to coordinate and implement strategic projects that promote inclusive growth, echoing the spirit of innovation and progress that defined the Western Region under the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
“Under President Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria is regaining confidence and stability,” the Governor said. “The ongoing reforms are beginning to yield positive results — the economy is growing, investments are returning, and optimism about the future is being restored.”
Highlighting the opportunities this renewed national momentum presents, Sanwo-Olu stated that Lagos State remains at the forefront of transformative infrastructure and economic projects designed to improve the quality of life for residents and strengthen regional competitiveness.
He mentioned key projects such as the 4th Mainland Bridge, the Green Line Rail, and the Lekki International Airport, describing them as catalysts for economic growth, connectivity, and job creation.
Governor Sanwo-Olu concluded with a call to action, urging the people of the South-West to harness their shared history of courage, innovation, and resilience.
“The South-West can, and must, lead Nigeria’s rebirth,” he declared. “The spirit that shaped our past still lives within us today — and together, we will rise to this moment.
