Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has congratulated the revered monarch, His Royal Majesty, Oba Rilwan Osuolale Aremu Akiolu I, the Oba of Lagos, on the joyous occasion of his 82nd birthday, describing him as a distinguished leader, a custodian of culture, and a father to all Lagosians.
In a message issued on Wednesday, Governor Sanwo-Olu paid glowing tribute to Oba Akiolu, acknowledging his remarkable contributions to the peace, stability, and development of Lagos State over the years. The Governor noted that Kabiyesi has remained a symbol of wisdom, discipline, and courage, whose life has been defined by service — first to the nation as a dedicated police officer, and later to the people of Lagos as their monarch and custodian of heritage.
“Today, we celebrate a royal father whose leadership has continued to inspire unity and progress in Lagos State,” Sanwo-Olu said. “Since ascending the throne of his forefathers in 2003, Oba Akiolu has shown unwavering commitment to the prosperity of Lagos and the wellbeing of its people. His reign has brought peace, development, and stability to our dear state.”
The Governor further highlighted the Oba’s wisdom and forthrightness, noting that his counsel has often guided successive administrations in Lagos. “Kabiyesi’s deep understanding of governance, his passion for justice, and his dedication to the welfare of his people have made him an invaluable partner in our shared pursuit of a greater Lagos,” he added.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also commended Oba Akiolu for preserving the rich cultural traditions of Lagos while embracing modernity, ensuring that the city’s history and values remain central to its continued growth as a global metropolis.
On behalf of his family, the government, and the good people of Lagos State, the Governor expressed heartfelt wishes to the Oba, praying for continued health, wisdom, and a peaceful reign.
“As we celebrate His Royal Majesty at 82, we thank God for his life of service and pray that the Almighty grants him many more years in good health and divine strength. Long may Kabiyesi reign in peace, wisdom, and prosperity,” Sanwo-Olu said.
