
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu today hosted the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Nigeria, His Excellency Mohammed Fouad, during a courtesy visit to Lagos House in Ikeja. The meeting, described as warm, engaging and forward-looking, provided an opportunity for both parties to explore new areas of cooperation and strengthen long-standing ties between Lagos State and Egypt.
Governor Sanwo-Olu welcomed Ambassador Fouad and expressed appreciation for Egypt’s growing interest in Lagos as a dynamic and economically vibrant subnational entity. He noted that Lagos, being Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre and Africa’s fastest-growing megacity, shares several developmental priorities with Egypt, particularly in the areas of transportation, infrastructure, tourism, urban development and creative industries.
The governor highlighted ongoing reforms and major investments in Lagos’ transport system—ranging from rail expansion to water transportation and road infrastructure—stating that these initiatives have created strong opportunities for international collaboration. He added that Egypt’s achievements in mass transit, especially in rail and urban mobility, could serve as valuable models for Lagos’ future plans.
Ambassador Fouad praised Lagos for its leadership role in Nigeria’s economic growth and for its progressive governance approach. He expressed Egypt’s readiness to partner with Lagos State in sectors where both territories share common strategic interests. According to him, Egypt and Lagos have significant potential for cooperation in aviation, blue economy development, renewable energy, education, and technology-driven service delivery.
The diplomat also commended the governor for the state’s expanding infrastructure and its growing international profile. He reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to building stronger diplomatic, cultural and economic connections with Lagos, with the ultimate aim of promoting mutual growth and strengthening bilateral relations between both countries.
Governor Sanwo-Olu assured the ambassador that Lagos remains open to partnerships that align with the state’s vision for sustainable economic development. He noted that collaborations with nations like Egypt help accelerate innovation, expand investment opportunities and enhance global engagement. The governor emphasized Lagos’ readiness to work closely with Egypt in areas that will benefit the people of both regions.
