The Lagos State Government has marked another significant step in its drive to expand access to affordable housing with the commissioning of a new 233-unit residential estate in the Abraham Adesanya area of Eti-Osa. The project, executed in partnership with Urban Shelter Limited, adds a fresh cluster of modern, well-planned homes to the state’s growing housing portfolio and brings Lagos closer to bridging its longstanding housing deficit.
Speaking at the commissioning, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed the state’s commitment to leveraging both public and private investment to deliver homes that are within the financial reach of average Lagosian families. He emphasized that the administration has remained consistent in its strategy of combining government support with private-sector expertise in order to scale delivery and maintain quality across housing developments.
The governor highlighted the momentum achieved over the past year, noting that the state handed over 420 apartments in Ajara, Badagry just last month, and has successfully delivered about 11,000 new homes within the last six years. According to him, these milestones demonstrate Lagos’ dedication to expanding housing options across diverse communities.
To make homeownership more attainable, the state introduced flexible approval processes and provided a 40 percent rebate on building permit fees. Additional tax incentives were also implemented to keep construction costs manageable and selling prices affordable.
Sanwo-Olu, however, stressed that accountability remains central to the housing program. He disclosed that partners who fail to meet agreed timelines or quality benchmarks are currently under review, adding that the state will not allow delays or substandard delivery to disrupt its long-term targets.
Addressing new homeowners, the governor urged residents to take pride in their community and safeguard the infrastructure provided. He reaffirmed that the administration will continue to prioritize decent, livable housing—one completed project at a time—to improve the quality of life for more Lagosians
