Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reiterated his administration’s dedication to deepening collaboration with Community Development Associations (CDAs) as part of ongoing efforts to improve the wellbeing of residents and strengthen grassroots governance. The governor made this known through his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, during the 2025 Community Day celebration held on Thursday at the Police College in Ikeja.
Addressing participants at the event—organised by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development—Sanwo-Olu emphasized that Community Day remains an important platform for acknowledging the vital role communities play in the state’s development. Themed “From Strength to Impact: Deepening Community Resilience,” the celebration highlighted the significance of collective action and citizen participation in shaping sustainable neighbourhoods.
Governor Sanwo-Olu commended the numerous self-help initiatives undertaken by CDAs across Lagos, noting that these community-driven projects have contributed immensely to the creation of safer, stronger, and more resilient environments. He explained that such initiatives align with the government’s broader development agenda, which prioritizes inclusivity, collaboration, and empowerment at the grassroots level.
According to him, the achievements of various communities—ranging from infrastructure upgrades to environmental improvements—demonstrate the power of partnership between the government and residents. He assured stakeholders that his administration remains committed to providing the necessary support, resources, and policies that will further reinforce community development efforts across all local government areas.
Sanwo-Olu urged CDAs to continue working closely with government agencies, stressing that shared responsibility is essential for maintaining progress and addressing emerging challenges. He also encouraged residents to stay actively involved in community-building activities, noting that sustained participation is key to achieving long-lasting development outcomes.
The governor reaffirmed that Lagos State will continue to prioritize initiatives that improve quality of life, strengthen community resilience, and promote inclusive growth for all
