Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to driving the investments and policy reforms needed to position Lagos as a leader in global innovation and digital transformation. The governor made this pledge on Thursday while addressing participants at the Art of Technology (AOT) Lagos 7.0 conference, held at the Landmark Event Centre, Victoria Island.
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, Sanwo-Olu emphasized that as the world becomes increasingly digital, Lagos must continue to evolve by embracing advanced technologies that improve governance, enhance security, and create new economic opportunities. He noted that the conference’s theme, “Future Technologies and a Sustainable Lagos,” reflects the state’s clear direction toward building an economy powered by innovation, data, and technology-driven solutions.
The governor highlighted that Lagos has already taken significant steps in expanding digital infrastructure, supporting tech startups, and promoting ICT-focused education. However, he stressed that sustainable success requires stronger collaboration between the government and private sector players who possess the expertise, creativity, and resources to drive large-scale digital growth.
Sanwo-Olu explained that the state government remains committed to fostering an enabling environment where technology can thrive—through policies that encourage innovation, initiatives that empower youths, and investments that improve digital access across communities. He added that building a safer and smarter megacity demands collective effort, especially in areas such as cybersecurity, digital identity systems, intelligent transportation, and environmentally sustainable technology solutions.
He also noted that Lagos’ ambition of developing a resilient digital economy is tied to its broader goal of creating jobs, boosting productivity, and enhancing residents’ quality of life. By integrating technology into every sector—health, education, transport, security, and governance—the state aims to remain competitive in the global innovation landscape.
Sanwo-Olu, therefore, called on tech innovators, investors, academia, and industry leaders to continue partnering with the government to accelerate the growth of a smart, green, and prosperous Lagos
