Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has called on members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to pay close attention to their behaviour on digital platforms, stressing that their online activities play a significant role in shaping their future. Addressing corps members during an orientation programme, the governor highlighted the growing power of the digital space and its increasing influence on personal and professional development.
Sanwo-Olu noted that the internet has evolved into a vital arena for communication, creativity and global engagement. According to him, what individuals post, share or respond to online forms part of a lasting digital trail that potential employers, partners and institutions may examine. He urged the corps members to be deliberate and thoughtful about the kind of content they create or interact with, reminding them that the digital world “never forgets.”
The governor explained that the digital space holds immense opportunities for young Nigerians, ranging from entrepreneurship and innovation to networking and career advancement. However, he cautioned that these opportunities could be undermined if they fail to cultivate a responsible online identity. He advised the corps members to view their social media platforms as extensions of their personal brands, which should reflect integrity, creativity and a spirit of service.
Sanwo-Olu also encouraged the youths to leverage technology for self-development, noting that the global economy increasingly rewards digital skills and professionalism. He urged them to embrace learning opportunities, build meaningful connections and use their platforms to positively influence their communities.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting youth empowerment initiatives, adding that Lagos State will continue to invest in programmes that equip young people with the tools needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital world. He concluded by expressing confidence in the corps members’ ability to make responsible choices that would shape promising futures for themselves and the nation.
