Today marked another important milestone in our drive to deliver sustainable water solutions for Lagos State as I commissioned the newly completed Akilo (Isheri-Oke) Mini Waterworks in Ogba, Ikeja. This project is the product of a strong and purposeful collaboration between the Lagos State Water Corporation and WaterAid Nigeria under the Urban Water and Sanitation Access Project. Seeing this facility fully operational and already serving the people is deeply fulfilling.
The Akilo Mini Waterworks has a production capacity of 1 million gallons of clean water per day, significantly improving access to safe and reliable drinking water for hundreds of thousands of residents within the Akilo community and its environs. For families, small businesses, and institutions in the area, this means better health outcomes, improved productivity, and a higher quality of daily life.
In continuation of the visit, I also inspected progress at the Adiyan Waterworks Phase II in Oke-Aro, one of the most ambitious and transformative water infrastructure projects currently underway in Lagos State. Adiyan II is central to our long-term strategy to meet the water demands of our rapidly growing population.
When completed, Adiyan II will contribute an additional 70 million gallons of water per day to Lagos’ water supply network, serving up to 5 million residents. This increased capacity will complement the existing Adiyan I and Iju Waterworks, enhancing system efficiency and strengthening the overall resilience of our water supply across the state.
These critical investments underscore my administration’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that every Lagosian has access to clean, safe, and potable water, today and for generations to come.
