Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has urged creatives, storytellers, and practitioners in the creative industry to remain innovative and resist complacency as the state continues to strengthen its creative economy as a key driver of growth and development.
The governor made this call while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to positioning Lagos as Africa’s creative and cultural capital. He noted that the creative sector—including film, music, fashion, arts, media, and digital content—plays a critical role in job creation, youth empowerment, and global visibility for the state.
Governor Sanwo-Olu stressed that while Lagos creatives have gained international recognition for their talent and resilience, sustained success requires continuous innovation, collaboration, and adaptation to global trends. According to him, complacency could slow progress and reduce competitiveness in an industry that thrives on originality and constant reinvention.
He emphasized that the state government is creating an enabling environment for creatives to flourish through strategic investments, policy support, infrastructure development, and partnerships with the private sector. These efforts, he said, are aimed at unlocking the full potential of the creative industry and expanding its contribution to the state’s economy.
The governor also encouraged creatives to leverage technology, digital platforms, and storytelling to amplify Lagos’ unique narratives and cultural identity on the global stage. He noted that authentic storytelling remains a powerful tool for shaping perceptions, driving tourism, and attracting investment.
Sanwo-Olu reiterated that his administration’s development agenda recognizes the creative industry as a major pillar for inclusive growth, particularly for young people. He urged industry players to take advantage of available opportunities, embrace skills development, and mentor emerging talents.
