Lagos State Government launches investigation into alleged medical negligence at private hospital
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into allegations of medical negligence following the death of Nkanu Nnamdi, the 21-month-old son of renowned Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. The child reportedly died after receiving treatment at a private hospital in Lagos.
The Lagos State Government confirmed the development in an official statement released on Saturday, noting that the decision followed a detailed account submitted by Adichie outlining the circumstances surrounding her son’s death. According to the statement, the governor directed relevant health authorities to immediately commence a full-scale probe to determine whether medical protocols were breached and to establish accountability where necessary.
Nkanu Nnamdi, one of Adichie’s twin sons, was said to have died on January 6 after a brief illness. The author reportedly raised concerns over the quality of care her child received, prompting public attention and calls for transparency within the healthcare system, particularly among private medical facilities operating in the state.
The state government emphasized its commitment to safeguarding public health and ensuring that healthcare providers adhere strictly to professional and ethical standards. It assured residents that the investigation would be thorough, impartial, and guided by existing medical regulations and laws.
