Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has joined His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to witness the signing of a comprehensive economic agreement between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Summit.
The landmark agreement marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s efforts to strengthen international trade relations and attract sustainable investments that will drive long-term economic growth. The partnership is designed to deepen bilateral trade ties between both countries while supporting a more sustainable and prosperous future for Nigerians.
Governor Sanwo-Olu noted that the agreement goes beyond formal documentation, as it opens new pathways for real investments, strategic collaborations, and stronger economic relationships. According to him, the deal is expected to translate into tangible benefits for everyday Nigerians through increased business opportunities, job creation, and improved access to global markets.
For Lagos State, Nigeria’s commercial and economic nerve centre, Sanwo-Olu emphasised that agreements of this nature are particularly important. He explained that stronger economic ties with the UAE will create opportunities for fresh foreign direct investment in critical sectors that drive Lagos’ economy, including infrastructure, energy, transportation, technology, trade, and manufacturing. Enhanced access to global markets, he added, will further position Lagos as a preferred destination for international investors and multinational businesses.
The governor also highlighted the significance of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Summit as a global platform that aligns economic development with environmental responsibility. He described the Nigeria–UAE agreement as a reflection of the country’s commitment to sustainable growth that benefits both present and future generations.
Sanwo-Olu expressed deep gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his visionary leadership and dedication to building a resilient and sustainable Nigerian economy. He commended the President’s efforts in fostering international partnerships that promote inclusive development, economic stability, and long-term prosperity for the nation.
The Nigeria–UAE economic agreement is expected to further strengthen Nigeria’s global economic standing and open new frontiers for sustainable development across the country.
