
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Monday officially signed the ₦4.4 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, marking a major milestone in the state’s fiscal and development agenda for the coming year.
The signing ceremony took place at the Conference Room of Lagos House, Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja, with top government officials and members of the executive arm in attendance. The budget, tagged the “Budget of Shared Prosperity,” reflects the administration’s commitment to inclusive growth, economic resilience, and improved quality of life for residents of the state.
Prior to its assent, the Lagos State House of Assembly had passed the budget in January after weeks of deliberation and review. The lawmakers approved a bill authorising the issuance and appropriation of a total sum of ₦4,444,509,776,438 for the 2026 fiscal year, underscoring their support for the state government’s development priorities.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, while signing the bill into law, reiterated his administration’s determination to deploy public resources efficiently and transparently in order to deliver tangible benefits to Lagosians. He noted that the 2026 budget is strategically designed to drive shared prosperity by accelerating investments in critical sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, transportation, security, and economic development.
The Governor further emphasized that the budget aligns with the THEMES+ development agenda of his administration, aimed at sustaining economic growth, creating jobs, and strengthening social services across the state. According to him, the focus remains on balancing capital and recurrent expenditure to ensure continuity of ongoing projects while meeting the growing needs of Africa’s largest city.
With the signing of the 2026 budget into law, implementation is expected to commence immediately, setting the tone for another year of targeted investments and people-centered governance in Lagos State.
