The Campaign for Dignity Governance has praised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for prioritising agriculture and food security as part of efforts to strengthen livelihoods and reduce pressure on households across Lagos State.
Through targeted agricultural programmes under the current administration, support has been extended to farmers and agribusiness operators in Epe, Badagry, Ikorodu, and parts of Alimosho, covering crop production, aquaculture, poultry farming, and food processing. The initiatives are designed to boost local food supply, create employment opportunities, and improve household food resilience amid rising living costs.
Officials say the government’s approach recognises the importance of peri-urban and rural communities in meeting Lagos’ food demand, while also encouraging youth participation in agriculture as a viable economic pathway.
Reacting to the initiative, Razaq Olokoba, Convener of the Campaign for Dignity Governance, said the administration’s focus on agriculture reflects practical leadership.
“The attention Governor Sanwo-Olu is giving to local agriculture is commendable. Supporting farmers within Lagos helps stabilise food supply, protect livelihoods, and reduce the impact of food price fluctuations on families,” Olukoba said.
He urged continuous engagement with farmer cooperatives and grassroots producers to ensure agricultural policies deliver lasting benefits at the community level.
Farmers and stakeholders in the sector have also called for sustained access to inputs, training, and market opportunities to strengthen long-term productivity.
