The Northern Youth Assembly (NYA) has applauded Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his sustained investment in healthcare infrastructure and social welfare programmes aimed at improving access to quality health services for Lagos residents.
Over the past few years, the Lagos State Government has upgraded primary healthcare centres, expanded maternal and child health services, and strengthened emergency response systems across the state. These reforms are designed to reduce preventable deaths, improve early diagnosis, and ensure that no community is left behind in accessing basic healthcare.
A major highlight is the rehabilitation and equipping of Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across local governments, with improved medical equipment, trained health personnel, and digitised patient-record systems. These upgrades have reduced overcrowding in tertiary hospitals and brought essential care closer to grassroots communities.
The administration has also expanded health insurance coverage under the ILERA EKO Health Scheme, enabling thousands of low-income families, traders, artisans, and informal workers to access medical care at affordable rates.
Reacting to these developments, Awukulu Mogaji, President of the Northern Youth Assembly, stated that Access to healthcare is a basic right, and Governor Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to strengthening primary healthcare and health insurance shows empathy and foresight. These interventions are saving lives, especially among women, children, and vulnerable populations.
In addition to physical healthcare, the Lagos State Government has increased attention on mental health awareness, substance-abuse prevention, and social protection programmes. Initiatives targeting youth mental well-being, job placement, and community outreach continue to provide support for at-risk populations.
The Northern Youth Assembly noted that these policies reflect a government that understands the human side of governance—where wellbeing, dignity, and access to care remain central priorities.
