Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the comprehensive transformation of the Obalende Bus Stop into a modern and sustainable bus transport hub, as part of the state’s broader mega-city development agenda.
The approval was announced by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, who disclosed that construction work on the project is expected to commence shortly. According to him, the redevelopment is designed to redefine the Obalende transport loop, including the underbridge area and adjoining lay-by, which currently experience heavy congestion and unregulated activities.
Wahab explained that the project aims to introduce a well-organised and regulated bus operation system that will significantly improve traffic flow and commuter experience in the area. The new layout will feature clearly labelled and strategically positioned location signages to guide passengers, enhance movement, and promote orderliness within the transport corridor.
He noted that the upgraded facility, to be known as the Y’ELLO Bus Park, aligns with the Lagos State Government’s commitment to creating efficient, safe, and environmentally responsible transport infrastructure. The park will be equipped with modern amenities designed to support daily commuter needs while reducing the chaotic conditions previously associated with the Obalende Bus Stop.
A key feature of the redevelopment is the integration of solar panels into the facility’s design. This initiative is aimed at promoting long-term energy efficiency and reducing reliance on conventional power sources, thereby lowering the area’s overall carbon footprint.
The commissioner added that the project reflects the Sanwo-Olu administration’s ongoing efforts to integrate transportation planning with environmental sustainability and urban renewal. When completed, the Y’ELLO Bus Park is expected to enhance mobility, improve safety, and contribute to the aesthetic and functional renewal of Obalende and its surrounding communities
