Northern Youth Assembly Commends Sanwo-Olu’s Investment in Water Transport as Lagos Boosts Connectivity
The Northern Youth Assembly has commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for prioritising investment in water transport infrastructure, a move that is expanding mobility options, easing road traffic pressure, and connecting Lagosians across waterways in a safer and more efficient manner.
According to the Managing Director of the Lagos State Ferry Services (LAGFERRY), strategic investments by the Sanwo-Olu administration are driving a water transport revolution across the state’s coastal landscape. These improvements include upgraded ferry terminals, enhanced safety measures, and the expansion of marine routes to serve commuters and traders alike.
Water transport has increasingly become vital as Lagos expands, serving communities along the Bariga waterways, Apapa channels, Victoria Island, and Badagry lagoon routes. Officials note that waterborne travel is reducing pressure on congested road networks while providing commuters with reliable alternatives that integrate seamlessly with land transport systems.
Reacting to these developments, the Northern Youth Assembly praised the governor’s approach to broadening transport choices across the state:
“By investing in water transport infrastructure, Governor Sanwo-Olu is not just improving mobility, he is opening opportunities for trade, ease of movement, and safer daily travel for Lagosians,” said the group’s leadership.
“This initiative reflects understanding of Lagos’ geographic and economic realities, and it enhances connectivity for communities that rely on both land and water transport.”
Why This Matters
✔ Water transport offers fast, cost-effective alternatives to road travel.
✔ Upgraded ferry terminals and routes help decongest busy roads.
✔ Expanded services improve access to jobs, markets, and education for coastal and inland residents.
The group noted that sustained investment in safety, affordability, and terminal maintenance would further strengthen public confidence and ensure long-term benefits for commuters.
