Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the World Bank Group to drive inclusive growth and improve living standards across the state.
The governor made this known while welcoming a high-level delegation from the World Bank Group to Lagos House, Marina. The delegation was led by the Managing Director for Operations, Ms. Anna Bjerde, alongside the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Regional Vice President for Africa, Mr. Ethiopia Tafara.
During the meeting, Governor Sanwo-Olu said discussions were frank, practical, and focused on areas that have the most direct impact on the lives of Lagosians. These areas include energy, agriculture, tourism, and human capital development. He noted that Lagos is actively seeking partnerships and investments that will support sustainable development and help raise the quality of life for residents.
According to the governor, the state government is prepared to take deliberate and accountable steps to earn greater international support, particularly for infrastructure projects that affect everyday life, such as transportation, power supply, and public services.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also reflected on the progress made over the past six years under the THEMES+ development agenda, emphasizing that the administration’s focus has always been on delivering tangible and measurable results. He stated that millions of residents have benefited from reforms and projects implemented during this period, while acknowledging that more work remains to be done.
Highlighting one of the key achievements, the governor pointed to Lagos State’s improved Ease of Doing Business ranking. He recalled that four years ago, Lagos was ranked 29th nationally, but has since risen to first place. He attributed this progress to deliberate policy choices, improved consistency, and greater accountability in governance.
The governor expressed optimism that deeper collaboration with the World Bank Group would further accelerate Lagos State’s development and consolidate recent gains.
