Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday received the Pro-Chancellor of the University of Uyo, Dr. Muiz Banire, SAN, at Lagos House, Marina, during a courtesy visit aimed at strengthening dialogue on the future of education and youth development in Nigeria.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both leaders to exchange views on the critical role educational institutions must continue to play in preparing young Nigerians for leadership, innovation, and national growth. Governor Sanwo-Olu described the visit as timely, noting that the challenges of the modern world demand closer collaboration between government and academic institutions to ensure that students are equipped with relevant skills and values.
According to the governor, universities and other higher institutions are not only centres of learning but also platforms for shaping character, creativity, and civic responsibility. He emphasized that Lagos State remains committed to supporting policies and partnerships that promote quality education, research, and youth empowerment.
Dr. Banire, SAN, who also shared insights from his experience in public service and education administration, stressed the importance of sustained investment in human capital development. He noted that the future of the nation depends largely on how well young people are prepared to compete globally while remaining grounded in strong ethical principles.
The discussion also touched on the need for innovation in teaching and learning, as well as the responsibility of institutions to adapt to changing social and economic realities. Both leaders agreed that stronger engagement between state governments and universities would help bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical societal needs.
Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated that Lagos State will continue to prioritize education as a cornerstone of development, adding that conversations such as this help to reinforce shared goals and inspire collective action.
The courtesy visit ended on a positive note, with both parties expressing optimism about future collaborations that will benefit students and contribute to national progress through education-driven policies and initiatives.
