Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the United Nations to improve humanitarian response and accelerate development across the state.
The governor made this known while receiving Mohamed Malick Fall, the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, at Lagos House, Marina. The meeting focused on practical strategies for tackling humanitarian and development challenges and ensuring that vulnerable communities receive timely and effective support.
Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted Lagos’ unique position as Africa’s largest megacity, noting that rapid urban growth brings both opportunities and pressures on infrastructure, health, housing, and social services. He stressed that partnerships with international development agencies are crucial in designing solutions that are sustainable and inclusive.
Discussions centered on key areas such as disaster preparedness, climate resilience, healthcare delivery, youth empowerment, and support for displaced and vulnerable populations. Both parties explored how existing programmes can be strengthened through data-driven planning, innovation, and closer coordination between state institutions and development partners.
The governor assured the UN delegation that Lagos State remains committed to creating an enabling environment for humanitarian and development initiatives, emphasizing transparency, accountability, and results-oriented governance. He also underscored the importance of aligning international support with the state’s long-term development agenda to ensure lasting impact.
In his remarks, Mr. Fall commended the Lagos State Government for its proactive approach to governance and its willingness to engage in strategic partnerships. He reaffirmed the commitment of the United Nations system in Nigeria to continue supporting Lagos in addressing pressing social and humanitarian needs.
