Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday received Mr. Mohamed Malick Fall, the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, at Lagos House, Marina, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen partnerships that address humanitarian and development needs across the state.
The meeting focused on practical strategies to confront challenges affecting vulnerable populations, including access to basic services, social protection, and community resilience. Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that Lagos, as Africa’s largest megacity, requires collaborative solutions that combine government action with international expertise and resources.
According to the Governor, development is most effective when it directly touches people’s lives at the community level. He noted that Lagos remains committed to policies that prioritize human welfare, especially in areas of health, education, housing, and disaster response. He added that partnerships with global institutions are essential to scaling up impact and ensuring that no segment of society is left behind.
Mr. Fall commended the Lagos State Government for its proactive approach to development and humanitarian response, stressing that coordinated efforts between subnational governments and international agencies are critical to achieving long-term stability and growth. He highlighted the importance of aligning humanitarian interventions with sustainable development plans so that short-term relief can translate into lasting improvements for residents.
Both parties agreed on the need to deepen cooperation in data-driven planning, emergency preparedness, and social development initiatives. They also discussed ways to strengthen institutional capacity and expand community-based programmes that target women, youths, and vulnerable groups.
The engagement underscored Lagos State’s determination to remain open to partnerships that enhance service delivery and build resilience in communities. Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed that his administration will continue to work closely with development partners to ensure that support reaches those who need it most, while promoting inclusive growth and social stability across the state.
He concluded by stressing that sustained dialogue and shared responsibility are key to overcoming humanitarian and development challenges, and expressed optimism that the collaboration with the United Nations will yield tangible benefits for Lagos residents
