The Christian community in Lagos State on Saturday witnessed a significant milestone with the dedication of the newly completed secretariat of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Lagos State Chapter, in Alausa, Ikeja.
The dedication ceremony was attended by the Wife of the President, Oluremi Tinubu, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Senator Tokunbo Abiru, and the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Tayo Ayinde, alongside several Christian leaders and worshippers from across the state.
The complex, located on Jobi Fele Way in Ikeja, has been christened the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Christian Association of Nigeria Lagos State Secretariat in honour of the First Lady’s longstanding support for faith-based initiatives and national unity. The facility comprises multiple structures named after prominent individuals in recognition of their contributions to the growth and stability of the association.
The main administrative building is designated the Babajide Sanwo-Olu Office Block, while the CAN Chairman’s office is named after Senator Tokunbo Abiru. In addition, the main hall and event centre has been named the Bishop Stephen Adegbite Hall and Event Centre, alongside other offices bearing the names of respected Christian leaders.
Speaking at the event, dignitaries emphasised the importance of unity among Christian denominations and the role of the church in promoting peace, moral values, and social development. They described the new secretariat as a symbol of collaboration between government and religious institutions in fostering harmony in Lagos State.
Governor Sanwo-Olu noted that the facility would strengthen coordination among Christian bodies and enhance their ability to contribute meaningfully to governance and community development. Senator Abiru and other speakers also called on Christians to remain committed to love, tolerance, and national cohesion.
The dedication ceremony concluded with prayers for Lagos State and Nigeria, as well as a charge to church leaders to use the new secretariat as a platform for deeper engagement, dialogue, and service to humanity.
