In furtherance of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to urban renewal and the transformation of Lagos into a 21st-century economy, the Lagos State Government has handed over provisional letters of allocation to 180 beneficiaries impacted by the redevelopment of Alaba Transnational Market, popularly known as Alaba Rago Market.
The beneficiaries, who are traders affected by the ongoing reconstruction of the market along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway in Ojo Local Council, received their provisional allocation letters during an official ceremony held at the headquarters of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) in Ikeja.
The allocation letters, personally approved by Governor Sanwo-Olu, form part of the state’s strategy to ensure that traders displaced by redevelopment projects are properly resettled and integrated into modern, safer, and more organised market facilities. The initiative also reflects the administration’s pledge to balance infrastructural development with the welfare of citizens whose livelihoods depend on commercial activities.
Speaking at the ceremony, officials of LASBCA reaffirmed the government’s resolve to carry out urban regeneration in a humane and inclusive manner. They noted that the redevelopment of Alaba Transnational Market is aimed at improving environmental standards, reducing congestion, and enhancing safety for traders and commuters using the busy Lagos-Badagry corridor.
The traders, who received their letters in person, expressed appreciation to the state government for fulfilling its promise and for ensuring transparency in the allocation process. Many described the gesture as a reassurance that their businesses would continue to thrive within a more organised and secure market environment.
The Lagos State Government maintained that the redevelopment of Alaba Rago Market is part of a broader urban renewal agenda designed to modernise public spaces, attract investment, and create a business-friendly atmosphere across the state.
With the issuance of the allocation letters, the government reiterated its determination to complete the project and sustain policies that promote orderly growth, economic opportunity, and improved quality of life for residents.
