
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has congratulated Assistant Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu on his appointment as Acting Inspector-General of Police by President Bola Tinubu, describing the elevation as well deserved and timely.
The governor said the appointment reflects decades of dedication and exemplary service by the senior officer within the Nigeria Police Force. He noted that AIG Disu has spent over 30 years in the force, building a reputation for professionalism, discipline, and results-driven leadership.
Recalling his time in Lagos, Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted Disu’s tenure as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad, where his approach to security combined firm law enforcement with a deep understanding of the people and the terrain. According to the governor, his leadership during that period was marked by courage, focus, and a clear strategy for tackling crime, which earned him the confidence of both officers and residents.
He expressed confidence that the new Acting Inspector-General would bring the same clarity of purpose and operational efficiency to his national assignment. The governor stressed that Nigeria requires a police institution that is accountable, responsive, and effective in addressing contemporary security challenges, adding that Disu possesses the experience and strength of character needed to lead such reforms.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also commended President Tinubu for appointing an officer with a proven track record, stating that the decision sends a strong signal about the government’s commitment to strengthening the security architecture of the country.
He concluded by congratulating the Acting Inspector-General once again and affirming that Lagos State is proud of his achievements. The governor expressed optimism that Disu’s leadership would further enhance public trust in policing and contribute significantly to the safety and stability of Nigeria.
