Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on young boys across the state to embrace strong values and responsible conduct as foundations for building a better society. The governor gave the charge while joining the opening session of the 2026 Lagos Boy Child Initiative Residential Workshop held at St. Gregory’s College.
Speaking at the event, Sanwo-Olu noted that the theme of this year’s workshop focuses on reorientating boys to become ambassadors of positive change within their families, schools and communities. He observed that young boys today are growing up in a complex and rapidly changing world that demands guidance, discipline and positive role models.
According to the governor, meaningful development in Lagos cannot be achieved without deliberate attention to the character and mindset of the next generation of men. He stressed that leadership, integrity and respect for others must be nurtured early in life if the state is to secure a stable and progressive future.
“We cannot talk about building a better Lagos without paying attention to the character and mindset of the next generation of men,” he said, adding that society must invest in mentoring and value-based education for boys to help them navigate social pressures and make responsible choices.
Sanwo-Olu expressed optimism after interacting with participants, commending their enthusiasm and willingness to learn. He described the workshop as an important platform for shaping attitudes and encouraging constructive engagement among young people.
He further emphasized that the future of society depends largely on the kind of boys being raised today, noting that parents, teachers, religious institutions and government all have roles to play in guiding young minds.
The Lagos Boy Child Initiative Residential Workshop is designed to provide a supportive environment for learning, self-discovery and character development, with sessions focused on leadership, personal responsibility and positive social behavior. The programme underscores the state government’s commitment to youth development as a cornerstone of long-term social and economic progress.
