Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Thursday attended a meeting of the Police Council held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where Olatunji Disu was confirmed as the 23rd Inspector-General of Police in Nigeria.
The meeting, chaired by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, brought together key members of the Council, including state governors and top government officials, to deliberate on issues affecting national security and policing in the country. The confirmation of Disu as the new head of the Nigeria Police Force formed a major highlight of the session.
Governor Sanwo-Olu noted that security remains a critical responsibility for leaders at all levels of government. According to him, governors across the country continue to prioritise policies and partnerships that strengthen public safety, maintain stability, and build citizens’ confidence in law enforcement institutions.
He emphasised that discussions during the Council meeting focused on improving coordination between federal and state authorities, enhancing operational efficiency within the police, and strengthening the trust between security agencies and the communities they serve.
Sanwo-Olu further reaffirmed the commitment of the Lagos State Government to collaborate closely with the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force to ensure the safety and security of residents. He stated that Lagos, being Nigeria’s commercial hub and one of the most populous cities in Africa, requires strong security partnerships and proactive policing strategies.
The governor also expressed optimism that under the leadership of the newly confirmed Inspector-General, the police would continue to implement reforms aimed at professionalism, accountability, and improved service delivery.
He added that Lagos State would remain supportive of initiatives that promote effective policing, intelligence sharing, and community engagement, all of which are essential for sustaining peace and protecting lives and property across the state and the country
