The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos has commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the decision to reintroduce the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in the state, describing the move as a demonstration of responsible and proactive governance.
In a statement released by the party’s Lagos chapter, the APC noted that the return of the sanitation exercise reflects the government’s commitment to maintaining a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment for residents. According to the party, environmental cleanliness is a key factor in ensuring public health, preventing disease outbreaks, and improving the overall quality of life in the state.
The party stated that the reintroduction of the sanitation programme would encourage residents to take greater responsibility for their surroundings while supporting the government’s broader environmental management efforts. It added that the initiative would also help strengthen community participation in maintaining cleanliness across neighborhoods, markets, and public spaces.
The Lagos APC further highlighted that the sanitation exercise was once an effective practice in the state, as it helped instill environmental discipline among residents. By reviving the initiative, the government aims to restore that culture of collective responsibility and ensure that Lagos remains a livable and organized city despite its rapidly growing population.
While praising the governor’s leadership, the party urged residents to cooperate fully with the government by participating actively in the sanitation activities and complying with environmental regulations. It also encouraged local government authorities and community leaders to support the implementation of the exercise to ensure its success.
The APC expressed confidence that the initiative would significantly improve environmental hygiene and contribute to the long-term development of the state. According to the party, the policy aligns with the administration’s broader vision of building a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable Lagos for present and future generations.
By bringing back the sanitation exercise, the Lagos State Government aims to promote environmental responsibility and strengthen efforts toward maintaining a healthier urban environment across the state.
