The Arewa Community in Lagos State has commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for appointing members of the community to key supervisory and advisory positions across several local councils. Speaking on behalf of the group at a news conference on Saturday, Alhaji Jida Sayid, Vice-Chairman (Central), described the appointments as a demonstration of inclusiveness, recognition, and political relevance within the party.
Sayid expressed gratitude to the Lagos State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, for ensuring that the Arewa Community was represented in decision-making roles. The appointments cover multiple Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) including Agege, Ojo, Oriade, Amuwo Odofin, Apapa Iganmu, Ajeromi, Ifako-Ijaiye, Ikorodu, Ikoyi-Obalende, and Iru/Victoria Island. He specifically mentioned beneficiaries such as Haija Hamdiya Mohammed in Oriade LCDA, Lawan Mohammed in Apapa Iganmu LCDA, Salisu Gezawa in Agege LC, and others who were selected as Supervisors or Special Advisers.
Addressing recent protests at the APC State Secretariat claiming marginalization of the Arewa Community, Sayid dismissed the allegations as unfounded. He emphasized that the disgruntled individuals acted based on selfish interests and did not represent the true views of the Arewa Community. The leadership reaffirmed its commitment to the party and stated its determination to support the APC in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
Additionally, Sayid noted that the Arewa General Assembly and stakeholders recently endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in 2027, praising his achievements and vision for the nation. Hajia Aisha Sanni, appointed as Ex-Officio I in the Lagos State APC Executive Committee, also commended the party leadership for including Arewa women in governance processes and pledged active political participation, including voter mobilization for the APC.
The Arewa Community leaders present at the event included Hajia Ramota Umar, Alhaji Mohammad Mahmud-Abba, Awwal Garba, and Hassan Jaguar, among others. Their statements reinforced a message of unity, gratitude, and active engagement with the APC, highlighting the importance of representation and inclusivity within Lagos State politics.
