The Campaign for Dignity Governance (CDG) has expressed strong support for the re-election of Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru as National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, describing his leadership as a steady force that has strengthened the party’s structure and internal cohesion.
In a statement issued in Lagos, the group also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it described as a deliberate and strategic approach to governance, one that prioritises continuity, competence, and institutional stability within the ruling party.
According to the Convener of the group, Razaq Olokoba, Dr. Basiru’s track record across legal practice, executive governance, and legislative service reflects a rare blend of intellect, discipline, and administrative capacity required to sustain the operational strength of a national political party.
“Leadership at the level of party administration requires more than just political presence; it demands structure, clarity, and consistency. In Dr. Ajibola Basiru, we have seen a leader who understands the mechanics of governance and has applied that knowledge effectively within the party system,” Olokoba said.
The group noted that Basiru’s tenure as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Osun State was marked by reforms that improved legal processes and institutional efficiency. It further highlighted his time in the Senate representing Osun Central, where he contributed to legislative discussions that shaped national policy and governance direction.
Since assuming office as APC National Secretary, the group observed that Basiru has played a key role in ensuring administrative order, improving communication within party ranks, and maintaining unity among stakeholders with diverse interests. His leadership, they said, has helped position the party to respond more effectively to both internal and national political dynamics.
The Campaign for Dignity Governance stressed that retaining experienced hands in key party positions is essential at a time when political institutions require stability and clear direction. It noted that continuity in leadership will allow the party to consolidate ongoing reforms while maintaining focus on long-term goals.
The group also praised President Tinubu for encouraging a system where competence and performance are given priority, noting that such an approach strengthens not just the party, but governance as a whole.
“President Tinubu’s leadership style reflects an understanding that strong institutions are built on capable individuals. Supporting leaders who have demonstrated capacity ensures that progress is not disrupted and that governance remains purposeful,” the statement added.
The group maintained that Dr. Basiru’s re-election would reinforce administrative efficiency within the party and provide the consistency needed to sustain its progressive agenda. It added that leadership continuity at this level is critical to maintaining party discipline, enhancing internal democracy, and ensuring readiness for future political engagements.
While reaffirming its endorsement, the Campaign for Dignity Governance urged party stakeholders to consider experience, proven performance, and commitment to service as key factors in decision-making.
The group concluded that supporting Dr. Ajibola Basiru represents a broader commitment to strengthening democratic institutions, sustaining progress, and ensuring that leadership within the party continues to reflect competence, vision, and responsibility.
