The Lagos State Government has taken another significant step towards reducing unemployment and promoting self-reliance by empowering 200 youths through technical and vocational education programmes.
The initiative, which forms part of the state’s broader youth development agenda, is designed to equip participants with practical, marketable skills that will enable them to become productive members of society. Beneficiaries were trained in various vocational fields, including tailoring, carpentry, electrical installation, plumbing, and other technical trades that are in high demand.
Government officials explained that the programme is aimed at addressing the growing need for skilled manpower while also tackling youth unemployment across the state. By providing hands-on training and relevant knowledge, the initiative seeks to prepare young people for both employment opportunities and entrepreneurship.
Participants were also exposed to modern techniques and tools to ensure they meet industry standards. In addition to the training, some beneficiaries received starter packs and equipment to help them establish their own businesses and become financially independent.
The Lagos State Government reiterated its commitment to investing in human capital development, noting that technical and vocational education remains a critical pathway to economic growth. Officials emphasized that empowering youths with practical skills not only improves their livelihoods but also contributes to the overall development of the state.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the government for the opportunity, describing the programme as life-changing. Many pledged to make good use of the skills acquired and to contribute positively to their communities.
The initiative underscores Lagos State’s continuous efforts to create opportunities for young people and build a skilled workforce capable of driving sustainable development.
