Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday joined his Ogun State counterpart, Governor Dapo Abiodun, for the official commissioning of the Gateway International Agro Cargo Airport in Ogun State. The landmark project was formally unveiled by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
The event marked a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to boost agricultural development and enhance logistics infrastructure across the region. Speaking on the occasion, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the airport as a strategic investment that will transform the movement of agricultural produce, reduce post-harvest losses, and improve access to both local and international markets.
He noted that the facility is expected to serve as a major hub for agro-exports, providing farmers and agribusinesses with efficient means of transporting goods while preserving quality and freshness. According to him, the development aligns with broader regional goals of ensuring food security, creating jobs, and stimulating economic growth.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for his vision and commitment to infrastructure development, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among South-West states in driving sustainable progress.
The Gateway International Agro Cargo Airport is designed to support large-scale agricultural logistics and is equipped with modern facilities to handle cargo operations effectively. Stakeholders believe the project will not only benefit Ogun State but also have a positive ripple effect across neighbouring states, including Lagos.
The commissioning ceremony attracted top government officials, industry stakeholders, and community leaders, all of whom expressed optimism about the long-term economic impact of the airport on Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
