Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has officially launched the Lagos Shopping Festival (LSF) symbol, marking the commencement of preparations for the much-anticipated 72-hour non-stop shopping and entertainment event.
The unveiling ceremony took place at Lagos House, Ikeja, during a courtesy visit by the festival’s organisers and corporate sponsors, including Zenith Bank Plc, Tolaram Group, and Guinness Nigeria Plc.
Set to run from December 23rd to 25th, 2024, the Lagos Shopping Festival is designed to showcase Lagos as Africa’s leading hub for commerce, creativity, and entertainment.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Idris Aregbe, highlighted the power of collaboration between the government and private sector.
He shared the success of a test event held in April, which recorded over ₦250 million in sales within three days.
“This is what happens when government and private entities work together,” Aregbe remarked.
The festival’s Director of Organisation, Ms. Damilola Pedro, revealed the concept was first pitched to Governor Sanwo-Olu in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Mr Governor, this project is your legacy. With the maiden edition running for three days, we are ready to elevate Lagos to the ranks of global cities like Istanbul and Dubai,” she said.
Sanwo-Olu commended the perseverance of the organisers, stating, “The Lagos Shopping Festival is an idea whose time has come. This December, Lagos will join the league of global cities hosting iconic shopping festivals.”
He urged Lagosians, businesses, and visitors to participate in the festival, promising a transformative experience. “This festival will redefine December in Lagos, uniting families, friends, and Nigerians in the diaspora in celebration,” he said.
The Lagos Shopping Festival will transform the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Lagos Island into a vibrant space featuring: discounted shopping opportunities, live performances by top artistes, non-stop rave parties and family-friendly attractions.
Corporate sponsors, including Guinness Nigeria Plc, expressed excitement for the initiative.
Girish Sharma, CEO of Guinness Nigeria, praised the festival for blending commerce and entertainment, adding that Guinness brands would be present to amplify the festive spirit.
“This event captures the essence of Lagos as Africa’s commercial and entertainment hub,” Sharma said.
The Lagos Shopping Festival, supported by the Lagos State Government, underscores its commitment to fostering economic growth and solidifying Lagos’ position as a premium destination for business and leisure.
