Today, I had the honour of accompanying His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to the National Assembly for the formal presentation of the 2026 Appropriation Bill to a joint session of lawmakers. The occasion marked another important milestone in the administration’s ongoing efforts to reposition Nigeria’s economy and strengthen the foundations of national development.
In his address, Mr. President clearly outlined the priorities and strategic direction guiding the 2026 Federal Government Budget. Central to the proposal is a strong focus on defence and national security, reflecting the administration’s determination to safeguard lives and property while ensuring peace and stability across the country. The President emphasized that security remains a fundamental requirement for sustainable economic growth and social progress.
Equally highlighted was the administration’s commitment to human capital development. The 2026 budget prioritizes investments in education, healthcare, and skills development, aimed at empowering Nigerians, particularly the youth, and preparing them to compete effectively in a rapidly changing global economy.
The President also underscored the importance of completing ongoing infrastructural projects nationwide. By focusing on roads, rail, power, and other critical infrastructure, the government seeks to unlock productivity, enhance connectivity, and stimulate economic activities across all regions of the country.
Food security featured prominently in the President’s presentation, with renewed emphasis on agriculture and allied sectors. The administration remains committed to boosting local production, supporting farmers, and ensuring affordable food for Nigerians.
Overall, the 2026 Federal Government Budget reflects a strong emphasis on economic responsibility, sustainable growth, and people-centred policies. It is designed to improve the welfare of Nigerians, strengthen national resilience, and lay the groundwork for long-term prosperity under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
