
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Akran of Badagry, describing the monarch’s demise as a profound loss to Badagry, Lagos State, and Nigeria as a whole.
In a statement issued on Monday, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the death of Oba Akran marked the end of an era, noting that the revered traditional ruler made remarkable contributions to the growth, peace, and cultural identity of Badagry during his nearly 49 years on the throne. According to the governor, the monarch’s long reign was characterized by wisdom, selfless leadership, and an unwavering commitment to the preservation of tradition and the advancement of his people.
Sanwo-Olu described Oba Akran as a highly respected custodian of culture who played a pivotal role in promoting unity and harmony within Badagry and beyond. He noted that the late monarch consistently used his position to advocate for the socio-economic development of the ancient town, working closely with government authorities and community stakeholders to attract development initiatives and improve the welfare of residents.
