Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, alongside other key stakeholders, has aligned with the gender inclusion initiative championed by Wema Bank as part of efforts to promote women’s empowerment and equal opportunities in society.
The initiative was highlighted during an event organised by Wema Bank to commemorate International Women’s Day. The gathering brought together government officials, development partners, professionals, entrepreneurs, and entertainers who engaged in discussions on advancing gender equality and creating more opportunities for women in leadership, business, and other sectors.
Participants at the event emphasised the need for deliberate policies and programmes that empower women and ensure their full participation in economic and social development. Speakers noted that gender inclusion is critical to sustainable growth, as women continue to play vital roles in communities, businesses, and governance.
Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated the Lagos State Government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote gender balance and empower women across different sectors. According to the governor, empowering women not only strengthens families and communities but also contributes significantly to economic growth and social progress. He added that partnerships between government, financial institutions, and development organisations are essential in building an inclusive society where women can thrive.
The event also provided a platform for discussions on innovation, financial inclusion, and the role of women in shaping the future economy. Participants shared experiences and ideas on how to break barriers that limit women’s advancement in different fields.
Organisers noted that the initiative is part of Wema Bank’s broader commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunities within the financial sector and beyond, while encouraging stronger support systems for women across Nigeria
