Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, today received the High Commissioner of Canada to Nigeria, Mr. Pasquale Salvaggio, and the Deputy High Commissioner, Mr. Carlos Rojas-Arbulu, during a courtesy visit to Lagos House, Marina.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to discuss ways of deepening the relationship between Lagos State and Canada, particularly through increased investment, strategic partnerships and collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
Governor Sanwo-Olu welcomed the Canadian diplomats and reaffirmed Lagos State’s commitment to building strong international relationships that can translate into tangible economic opportunities for residents and businesses across the State.
He emphasised the importance of strengthening partnerships with international governments, institutions and investors as Lagos continues to position itself as a leading destination for investment, innovation and economic development.
The Governor noted that diplomatic engagements should go beyond discussions and translate into practical initiatives capable of delivering sustainable value. He stressed that stronger international ties can create opportunities for investment, job creation, knowledge exchange, technology transfer and capacity development.
Sanwo-Olu highlighted Lagos’ strategic position as Nigeria’s economic and commercial hub, noting that the State remains open to partnerships that support its development agenda and improve the quality of life of its citizens.
The discussions also explored areas where Lagos and Canada can work together to promote shared interests and create mutually beneficial opportunities. Both sides expressed interest in strengthening cooperation and identifying practical areas for deeper engagement.
The Governor appreciated the High Commissioner and Deputy High Commissioner for the visit, expressing optimism that the engagement would further strengthen the relationship between Lagos State and Canada.
He reiterated the commitment of his administration to transforming international partnerships into meaningful investments and initiatives that deliver lasting economic and social benefits for Lagosians.
