Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, today received the Governing Council and leadership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) on a courtesy visit to Lagos House, Marina.
The visit provided an opportunity for the Governor and the leadership of Nigeria’s foremost professional accounting body to engage on issues relating to economic development, public sector accountability, financial management and the continued growth of Lagos State.
Governor Sanwo-Olu welcomed the ICAN delegation and acknowledged the important role the institute and its members continue to play in strengthening Nigeria’s financial and economic systems. He noted that professional bodies such as ICAN remain critical partners in promoting transparency, accountability, efficiency and sound financial practices across both the public and private sectors.
The Governor emphasised the importance of collaboration between government and professional institutions in developing policies and initiatives capable of supporting sustainable economic growth. He also highlighted the need for continued investment in human capital, innovation and institutional capacity to position Lagos for greater competitiveness.
Sanwo-Olu noted that Lagos, as Nigeria’s economic and commercial hub, remains committed to creating an environment where businesses can thrive, investments can flourish and professionals can contribute meaningfully to the development of the State and the country.
He further appreciated ICAN for its contributions to professional excellence and good governance, expressing confidence that stronger collaboration between the Lagos State Government and the institute would produce positive outcomes for residents and businesses.
The ICAN leadership, in turn, reiterated its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote responsible financial management, economic development and good governance.
The courtesy visit reaffirmed the shared commitment of the Lagos State Government and ICAN to building stronger institutions, promoting accountability and advancing sustainable economic development in Lagos and Nigeria.
