Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on Nigerians to remain united and committed to building a stronger nation as the country marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.
In a goodwill message commemorating the anniversary, Sanwo-Olu reflected on Nigeria’s journey since gaining independence on October 1, 1960, noting that the nation has experienced periods of significant challenges as well as moments of remarkable progress.
The Governor said Nigerians had demonstrated resilience and determination throughout the country’s history, stressing that these qualities remain important as the nation continues its development journey.
Sanwo-Olu expressed confidence in Nigeria’s potential, saying the country could achieve greater progress when citizens work together despite their differences.
He described Nigeria’s diversity as one of its major strengths, noting that the country’s different cultures, backgrounds and identities contribute to the richness of the nation.
The Governor also urged Nigerians to honour the sacrifices of the country’s founding heroes by contributing positively to national development and fulfilling their responsibilities as citizens.
According to him, those who fought for Nigeria’s independence believed in the vision of a united nation, adding that present and future generations have a responsibility to preserve that vision.
He encouraged Nigerians to make meaningful contributions to society through their daily actions, stressing that the future of the country would be influenced by the choices citizens make and their willingness to work collectively.
Sanwo-Olu said Nigeria belongs to every citizen and called for greater cooperation and a shared commitment to national development.
He noted that building the country requires the collective efforts of government, communities and individuals, with citizens playing important roles in shaping the nation’s future.
The Governor concluded his message by extending his warm wishes to Nigerians at home and abroad, as he celebrated the country’s independence anniversary.
He wished Nigeria continued progress, peace and development, while urging citizens to remain hopeful and committed to the task of nation-building.
“Happy 66th Independence Anniversary, Nigeria,” Sanwo-Olu said.
