Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has directed the Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC) to intensify road reconstruction and rehabilitation across the state, leveraging favourable dry-season conditions to improve infrastructure and ease transportation challenges.
The General Manager of LSPWC, Engr. Tokunbo Ajanaku, disclosed this during an inspection of ongoing road projects, reaffirming the government’s commitment to providing safer and more accessible roads for residents and businesses.
According to Ajanaku, significant reconstruction activities are underway in Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area, targeting major roads including Godwin Omonuwa Road, Taiwo Street, Salamotu Street, Peter Agah Street and Ibeh Street.
He explained that the projects were initiated following Governor Sanwo-Olu’s directive to address deteriorating road infrastructure, strengthen community connectivity and enhance economic activities.
Ajanaku emphasised that the affected roads serve thousands of commuters, traders and business operators, making their rehabilitation essential for improved mobility and commercial development.
He further noted that the intervention would reduce transportation costs, minimise traffic difficulties, improve road safety and create a more conducive environment for economic growth.
The inspection also covered rehabilitation projects in other parts of Lagos, including Ogunnusi Road in Ojodu, Awolowo Way in Ikeja, Lanre Awolokun Road and Idowu Olaitan Street in Somolu, alongside Idimu-Ikotun Road in Alimosho.
Addressing concerns about road deterioration during the rainy season, Ajanaku explained that persistent rainfall had previously limited asphalt-laying operations.
However, he stressed that the corporation continued emergency repairs and temporary maintenance interventions to ensure critical roads remained accessible.
With improved weather conditions, LSPWC is expected to accelerate reconstruction activities across affected communities.
The initiative reflects the Sanwo-Olu administration’s continued efforts to strengthen Lagos’ transportation infrastructure, support businesses, enhance road connectivity and improve the overall quality of life for residents across the state.
