Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has reaffirmed his commitment to working with traditional institutions to promote development, preserve cultural heritage and improve the lives of residents across the state.
Hamzat made this known after visiting the President and Senior Chiefs of the Association of Lagos Titled Chiefs during their October meeting, where discussions centred on the future of Lagos and the importance of collective efforts in achieving the state’s development goals.
The Deputy Governor described traditional institutions as an essential part of Lagos’s identity, history and community life, noting that their wisdom and experience remain valuable in shaping policies and initiatives that benefit residents.
According to him, engaging traditional leaders provides an opportunity for the government to listen to community concerns, exchange ideas and strengthen cooperation between the government and the people.
Hamzat expressed appreciation to the chiefs for sharing their insights and perspectives, stressing that building a greater Lagos requires the participation and support of stakeholders across different sectors of society.
He noted that the state has ambitious development goals that can only be achieved through sustained collaboration, effective leadership and a shared commitment to progress.
The Deputy Governor also reiterated the government’s determination to ensure that development initiatives translate into tangible benefits for communities throughout Lagos, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, economic opportunities and improved living standards.
He emphasised that development must reach every neighbourhood, adding that continued engagement with traditional institutions would help strengthen the relationship between the government and local communities.
Hamzat further pledged to uphold the cultural values and traditions that distinguish Lagos while pursuing policies that support growth, inclusiveness and prosperity.
The meeting underscores the importance of maintaining a strong partnership between the state government and traditional leaders as Lagos continues to pursue its development agenda.
He reaffirmed that listening, collaboration and respect for the state’s heritage would remain central to the administration’s efforts to build a more prosperous and inclusive Lagos for present and future generations.
