Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has been honoured with the 2026 Global Transformation and Good Governance Prize in Washington, D.C., in recognition of the State’s strides in governance, infrastructure development and technological advancement.
Receiving the award on behalf of the people of Lagos, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the honour as a reflection of the collective efforts of Lagosians and the commitment of his administration to delivering sustainable development across the State.
The Governor highlighted Lagos’ growing technology ecosystem and extensive infrastructure development as key indicators of the progress being recorded under his administration.
He noted that Lagos has continued to strengthen its position as a leading technology and innovation hub, while simultaneously investing in critical infrastructure to support economic growth and improve connectivity across the State.
According to Sanwo-Olu, major investments in rail and water transportation are helping to expand mobility options for residents while contributing to the broader development of the State’s transportation network.
The Governor emphasised that the transformation being witnessed in Lagos is driven by a combination of effective governance, strategic planning and consistent execution of development projects.
He said the award serves as an encouragement for the State Government to sustain its efforts in delivering projects and policies that have a direct impact on the lives of residents.
Sanwo-Olu also acknowledged the role of Lagosians in the State’s progress, noting that the achievements recorded over the years would not have been possible without their support, resilience and contributions to the growth of the State.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building on the progress already made while pursuing new opportunities in technology, infrastructure, investment and economic development.
The Governor said Lagos would continue to demonstrate what is possible when strong governance is matched with effective execution, innovation and a clear vision for sustainable development.
The recognition in Washington further underscores Lagos’ growing profile on the global stage as a destination for investment, innovation and transformative governance.
