The Lagos State Government has convened a high-level stakeholders’ meeting to address the recent resurgence of traffic congestion in Apapa and its environs, as well as the Lekki-Epe corridor and Lekki Free Trade Zone axis.
The meeting, held to examine the growing traffic challenges across the affected corridors, was chaired by the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Olawale Musa.
The stakeholders reviewed the factors responsible for the renewed gridlock, particularly along major port-access routes in Apapa, and considered practical measures to improve vehicular movement and ease the burden on road users.
Discussions also focused on traffic challenges along the Lekki-Epe corridor, where increasing commercial and industrial activities have contributed to growing pressure on the road network.
Musa said the meeting provided an important platform for relevant stakeholders to identify the underlying causes of the congestion and develop sustainable solutions to restore smoother traffic flow.
He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to strengthening regulatory and enforcement measures to address activities contributing to traffic disruptions across the affected areas.
According to him, particular attention would be given to the indiscriminate parking of articulated trucks along the Lekki-Epe corridor.
The Permanent Secretary described the practice as a major obstruction to the free movement of vehicles, noting that it causes significant inconvenience to residents, commuters, businesses and other road users within the axis.
He stressed the need for all stakeholders to support traffic management efforts by complying with established regulations and avoiding activities capable of worsening congestion.
The state government also emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration among government agencies, transport operators, businesses and other stakeholders in tackling the challenges.
The meeting forms part of the government’s efforts to improve traffic management, enhance mobility and ensure more efficient movement of people and goods across Lagos’ major economic corridors.
