President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has held discussions with Vincent Bolloré and executives of the Bolloré Group in Paris, France, on expanding investments in Nigeria’s creative industry, entertainment, telecommunications and digital economy.
Tinubu disclosed this in a statement, noting that Nigeria’s growing global cultural influence presents an opportunity to attract investments, create jobs and strengthen the country’s economy.
The president highlighted the international success of Nigerian music, films, fashion and other creative expressions, saying the country’s cultural influence continues to grow as Afrobeats and Nollywood attract audiences across continents.
He stressed the need to translate this growing global recognition into sustainable economic benefits for Nigerians, particularly young people working in the creative and technology sectors.
According to Tinubu, the discussions focused on opportunities for increased investment through the Bolloré Group’s businesses, including Canal+, MultiChoice and Universal Music, alongside developments in fibre-optic infrastructure and the broader digital economy.
He noted that the executives recognised Nigeria’s position as a major driver of Africa’s cultural growth, supported by the international popularity of its entertainment industry and the increasing demand for Nigerian content.
Tinubu emphasised that his administration wants a greater share of the value generated by Nigerian talent to remain within the country.
He called for increased local production, stronger investment in domestic industries and infrastructure, and expanded employment opportunities for young Nigerians.
The president also reiterated his position on greater localisation in the operations of companies such as MultiChoice, stressing the importance of strengthening local capacity and ensuring that Nigerian creative professionals benefit more directly from the industry’s growth.
Tinubu maintained that ongoing economic reforms were intended to create a favourable environment for investment, business expansion and sustainable development.
He added that attracting foreign investors must go beyond securing financial commitments to ensuring that investments deliver tangible benefits to citizens.
The president said the discussions aligned with the objectives of his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to expand economic opportunities, promote local industries and support Nigeria’s long-term development.
