The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has commended the mobilisation and show of solidarity witnessed at the All Progressives Congress (APC) North Central campaign flag-off in Lafia, Nasarawa State, while urging political actors to prioritise peaceful and issue-based campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Idris made this known following the political gathering, which brought together party members, supporters and stakeholders from across the North Central region to demonstrate their participation in the party’s political activities.
The minister acknowledged the level of participation at the event, noting the importance of political engagement and collective involvement in the democratic process.
He, however, stressed that political activities ahead of the 2027 elections should be conducted responsibly, with emphasis on policies, development plans and issues affecting the lives of Nigerians.
According to him, political campaigns should provide opportunities for candidates and political parties to communicate their programmes to the electorate and engage citizens on matters of national importance.
Idris emphasised the need for political leaders and their supporters to maintain peace, respect differing opinions and avoid actions capable of creating tension or undermining democratic participation.
He noted that peaceful political engagement remains essential to strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring that citizens can freely participate in the electoral process.
The minister’s call also highlights the importance of responsible communication during electioneering, particularly as political parties begin activities towards the next general elections.
He urged political actors to focus on constructive discussions that address the concerns of Nigerians, including economic development, security, employment and improved public services.
The APC North Central campaign flag-off in Lafia provided a platform for party members and supporters to gather as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue.
Idris’s remarks underscore the need for political mobilisation to go hand in hand with respect for democratic principles, peaceful coexistence and issue-based discussions.
As political activities gather momentum ahead of the elections, stakeholders are expected to play their part in promoting an environment where competing political views can be expressed peacefully and voters can make informed decisions.
The minister reiterated the importance of responsible political participation in sustaining Nigeria’s democratic process and national stability.
