Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has urged young Nigerians to develop their skills, remain committed to their goals and contribute to the development of their communities and the country.
The governor made the call while speaking at the 41st birthday colloquium of Seyi Tinubu, where he shared lessons from his personal journey and offered advice to the younger generation on leadership, professional development and nation-building.
Sanwo-Olu encouraged young people to make themselves available for opportunities, master their chosen professions and invest their knowledge and abilities in building a better future for Nigeria.
According to him, success requires dedication, continuous learning and a willingness to contribute meaningfully to society. He stressed that young Nigerians must be prepared to take advantage of available opportunities while developing the competence needed to make a lasting impact.
The governor also emphasised the importance of investing in the future by creating opportunities for younger generations and strengthening the foundations laid by previous leaders.
He noted that meaningful development goes beyond immediate achievements, explaining that the efforts of today’s leaders should produce lasting benefits for generations to come.
Sanwo-Olu maintained that building a prosperous society requires leaders to continue unfinished projects, establish strong institutions and create an environment where young people can thrive and fulfil their potential.
He further highlighted the need for individuals to contribute to the growth of their communities and country rather than concentrating solely on personal achievements.
The governor’s message centred on three key principles: showing up when opportunities arise, developing expertise in one’s chosen field and using acquired knowledge and skills to contribute to national development.
He said the work being undertaken today must be capable of outliving those who initiate it, stressing the importance of building sustainable structures that will continue to benefit future generations.
The colloquium, organised to mark Seyi Tinubu’s 41st birthday, provided a platform for discussions on leadership, personal development and the responsibilities of the younger generation.
Sanwo-Olu’s remarks underscored the importance of purposeful leadership, youth empowerment and long-term planning in creating a stronger future for Lagos State and Nigeria.
