Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, Lagos State Deputy Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, has reaffirmed his commitment to infrastructure development and improving the quality of life for Lagos residents, highlighting the importance of the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge.
Hamzat made this known following his recent visit to residents of Osborne Foreshore Estate, where he reflected on the circumstances that informed the construction of the landmark bridge during his time overseeing the Lagos State Ministry of Works.
According to him, the project was conceived to address the growing transportation challenges in Lagos, reduce traffic congestion and improve connectivity across the Lekki Peninsula, which has continued to experience significant population and economic growth.
He recalled that the bridge was delivered in collaboration with former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, describing it as a significant milestone in the state’s infrastructure development.
Hamzat noted that beyond easing the daily commute for thousands of motorists, the bridge has become an iconic feature of the Lagos skyline, demonstrating the impact of visionary planning, innovation and purposeful leadership.
He also criticised attempts to undermine the project’s achievements through political arguments, insisting that such criticisms cannot erase the benefits the bridge has provided to millions of road users over the years.
The APC governorship candidate stressed that effective governance must be rooted in listening to the concerns of residents and developing lasting solutions to their everyday challenges.
He further reiterated his commitment to transparent and impactful public service, adding that Lagos must continue to invest in infrastructure renewal and development to meet the changing needs of its growing population.
Hamzat maintained that the administration’s responsibility is to build on existing achievements and pursue projects that make life easier for residents.
He concluded by urging Lagosians to assess public projects based on their practical benefits, emphasising that the ultimate measure of governance is whether such initiatives improve the lives of the people.
