
The Lagos State Government has received another boost on the global stage as the General Manager of the Lagos State Command and Control Centre, Mr. Femi Kennedy Giwa, was presented with the Public Safety Personality of the Year Award at the 6th Africa Safety Congress/Africa Safety Award for Excellence (AfriSAFE) 2025. The ceremony took place on Friday, 14th November 2025, at the PrideInn Paradise Beach Resort & Spa in Mombasa, Kenya.
This prestigious continental recognition further solidifies Lagos State’s growing reputation for innovation and excellence in public safety, emergency coordination, and disaster management under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The AfriSAFE event, which assembled over 35,000 professionals, government institutions, and industry experts across Africa, focused on the theme: “United for a Safer Africa: Building Strategic Alliances & Leveraging Technology for Sustainable Development.”
Mr. Femi Giwa’s award was conferred in acknowledgment of his significant contributions to strengthening Lagos State’s emergency response architecture. Under his leadership, the Lagos Command and Control Centre has enhanced real-time incident reporting, improved inter-agency coordination, and expanded the integration of technology in disaster response. His efforts have also supported the state’s drive to build a more resilient safety infrastructure capable of protecting millions of residents.
The recognition is seen as a reflection of the Lagos State Government’s investment in modern safety systems, emergency preparedness, and rapid-response frameworks. Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration has consistently emphasized the need to adopt cutting-edge technologies and strategic partnerships to safeguard lives and property across the state.
